Trusting the traditional farming heritage of Afghanistan, Mira unites farmers from all across the country under the shared vision of sustainability, pairing our efforts with modern marketing techniques to provide the world with exceptional natural produce.
Mira creates opportunities, nurtures strong relationships with farmers, and invites customers to discover our ethical journey and join us in supporting these underprivileged communities.
Mira have traveled across Afghanistan and built trusting relationships with hard-working, vulnerable female farmers. They are hard-working, strong and independent and they make a meaningful contribution to the economy. They work alongside men as equal parts and business partners. Mira has given women a platform to be seen and heard, so that they can inspire and empower others and draw them closer to the light, away from the darkness of extremism and cultivation of illegal substances.
During our ten-year journey, the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative has put sustainability at the forefront of its mission. We work to empower low-income Afghans, especially women, by providing sustainable sources of income — adult and vocational training, schooling for children, social development, medical care, clean water, and economic reform.
We remain committed to women's empowerment, currently working with 600 female farmers harvesting saffron in Herat, 1,000 female farmers picking dried fruits and nuts across the country, and employing 42 women in our processing centres. The ripple effect of empowerment has extended to 17,000 indirect beneficiaries through their communities.
Our Education Department fights child labour by facilitating schooling — every child under 15 in our supply chain attends full-time school. Our Health Department provides free healthcare and regular check-ups to every employee and their family, including a vaccination campaign against polio.
Our farms span the country, from East to West. We represent independent farmers from nearly every corner of Afghanistan, uniting them in the shared vision upon which Mira Farms was inspired.
Mira products are handpicked and, when needed, dried daily on the farm — making sure all their goodness stays intact.
Agriculture is an integral part of Afghan history and cultural identity. Today, once again, flowers of saffron, almonds, pistachios, figs and walnuts rise from the fertile Afghan soil — sustaining livelihoods and transforming every aspect of society.
